Radiator Not Working
One cold radiator does not necessarily mean the boiler has failed. Pro Plumbers investigates radiators that stay cold, heat unevenly, leak or make unwanted noise in Sevenoaks and nearby towns.
ABOUT THIS SERVICE
Finding out why a radiator stays cold
Radiator faults often show up as a room that never gets comfortable while the rest of the house seems fine. The cause may sit at the radiator valve, in circulation through the heating system or in the controls that determine when heat is available. Pro Plumbers checks the pattern before recommending work, asking whether one radiator or several are affected and how the problem changes through a heating cycle. Our team has traded for 15 years and works across Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and surrounding villages within roughly 20 miles. We handle relevant heating repairs with Gas Safe and OFTEC expertise available where appliance work is involved. You receive a clear explanation of the findings, options for the affected radiator and any broader system issue that needs separate attention rather than an automatic recommendation to replace everything.
Minimum charge £90 + VAT, including the first hour on site. Larger jobs get a fixed, no-obligation price.

OUR PROCESS
How It Works
01
Map the cold areas
Tell us which radiators are affected, whether they warm at all and whether the boiler is producing heating elsewhere.
02
Check the likely causes
We assess relevant valves, controls and circulation, distinguishing a local radiator fault from a wider heating problem.
03
Agree targeted work
We explain a suitable repair or any further investigation, complete agreed work and check the affected heating operation.
BENEFITS
Why Choose us for Radiator Repairs?
System-aware diagnosis
We look at how the radiator behaves within the heating system, not just whether its surface feels cold.
Proportionate recommendations
A valve repair, balancing adjustment and radiator replacement solve different problems; we explain which work is supported by the findings.
Local workmanship guarantee
Our Sevenoaks team provides a 1-year workmanship guarantee and clear charges for the agreed repair.
One cold radiator or a whole cold house?
The first useful distinction is whether the boiler is providing heating to any part of the home. If every radiator is cold, the investigation may begin with controls, the heat source or system circulation. If only one room is affected, the radiator and its connections may be a more useful starting point. Tell us whether hot water is working too, because that helps describe the overall pattern without assuming the boiler itself has failed.
Notice when the problem occurs: a radiator that warms briefly before cooling is different from one that never warms at all. Thermostatic settings and room temperatures can affect normal operation, so a cooler radiator is not always proof of a broken component. We consider how the system is being controlled and whether the room reaches its intended temperature before advising on repairs. This avoids replacing a fitting simply because it is not constantly hot.
Uneven warmth, valves and circulation
Cold areas can have more than one cause. Air, restricted flow or deposits may be relevant, but the temperature pattern alone is not a complete diagnosis. Bleeding is not a universal solution, and doing it without understanding the system can create another issue if pressure subsequently needs attention. If you are unsure about the controls or pressure arrangements, ask for advice rather than repeatedly adjusting valves or letting water out.
Valves that are stuck, leaking or no longer controlling flow may need attention. Access, valve condition and the connected pipework affect the repair, so we inspect before confirming the approach. Some rooms may need balancing work rather than a new radiator. Where a wider circulation issue is suspected, we explain what further checks would establish the cause and do not automatically recommend a system clean without supporting findings.
Leaks, replacements and the agreed price
A radiator leak can come from a connection, valve or the radiator body itself. Tell us where water appears, and keep clear if it is near electrical equipment. A damaged radiator may need replacement, but a faulty connection does not always require changing the whole unit. If replacement is appropriate, size, output and compatibility matter as well as appearance. We discuss the proposed work and any changes to connected pipework before you agree.
Our minimum charge is £90 + VAT including the first hour on site, with a fixed, no-obligation price for bigger jobs. Pro Plumbers is based at 11 Lime Tree Walk, Sevenoaks TN13 1YH. Call 01732 444555 Monday to Friday, 7am–10pm, or Saturday to Sunday, 9am–8pm. Tell us how many rooms are affected and whether any radiator leaks, so we can discuss the right appointment and explain what information will help the engineer.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is only one radiator cold?
Possible causes include a valve issue, restricted flow or local control settings. We check its behaviour and connections before recommending a repair.
Does a cold radiator always need bleeding?
No. Air is only one possible cause. Repeated bleeding without checking the system can create pressure problems and may not address the original fault.
Do cold patches mean I need power flushing?
Not automatically. We assess the symptoms and system condition first. Any recommendation for wider cleaning should be supported by the findings.
Can you repair a leaking radiator valve?
We assess leaking valves and connections and discuss suitable repair or replacement. Tell us if the leak is active or causing damage when booking.
Will you replace the radiator if needed?
We can discuss replacement where appropriate, considering size, heat output and connections. A local valve or circulation repair may be sufficient instead.
