When the boiler leaves you without heat

Start by noting exactly what has changed. A boiler that supplies hot water but will not heat radiators presents a different starting point from one that has no display at all. Tell us when the fault began, whether it is intermittent and whether any electrical or plumbing work happened recently. These details help us plan the visit, but they do not replace checks at the property. Please do not remove the boiler casing or attempt internal adjustments yourself.

If you smell gas, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency service on 0800 111 999 from outside. Do not use electrical switches or naked flames. A carbon monoxide alarm, fumes or suspected combustion problem also needs urgent safety action: leave the building and seek emergency advice. Our breakdown service is not a substitute for making a potentially dangerous property safe before repair work starts.

Heating faults can involve thermostats, programmers, valves or circulation as well as the boiler itself. We work through the symptoms to establish where the problem sits, rather than changing components on guesswork. Let us know if your radiators were cold in particular rooms before the breakdown, or if the hot water temperature had become unreliable. That history can help distinguish a new failure from an existing system issue.

A fault code is useful information, not a complete diagnosis. Different models use different codes, and similar symptoms can have several causes. If you have the appliance handbook, keep it available for the engineer. Avoid repeated resets when the boiler keeps locking out; repeated failure needs investigation. Our minimum charge is £90 + VAT, including the first hour on site. Bigger jobs receive a fixed, no-obligation price, so you can consider the proposed work before agreeing. Some breakdowns can be resolved during the first visit, while others require a specific replacement part. We will explain that distinction and discuss the next appointment rather than promise a same-day outcome that cannot be guaranteed.

We fit Worcester Bosch and Vaillant boilers, and replacement advice can include the needs of your existing heating system.
