Pipework Replacement
Pipes hidden under floors and behind walls do not last forever. In older homes, repeated pinhole leaks, discoloured water or a run of patch repairs are signs the pipework itself is wearing out. Pro Plumbers replaces corroded and failing pipes with modern materials, planning the work so your home is disrupted as little as possible.
ABOUT THIS SERVICE
Signs your pipework is near the end
Old copper and steel pipes give warnings before they fail. Look for small pinhole leaks that keep appearing, green or white crusting on joints, rusty or discoloured water when a tap first runs, banging or knocking as water moves, and taps that have lost flow over the years. Heating pipework can show its age through repeated leaks at joints or weeping under radiators. One of these alone may only need a repair, but several together usually mean a section is ready for replacement.

OUR PROCESS
How It Works
01
Assess the pipework
We look at the exposed runs, the condition of joints and the history of leaks, and work out which sections need attention.
02
Plan routes and timing
New routes are agreed, along with which floors or boxing need opening and when the water will be off.
03
Replace and test
New pipework is fitted, pressure tested and checked for leaks before floors and boxing are closed up.
BENEFITS
Careful work in lived-in homes
Short shut-offs
Work is sequenced so the water or heating is off for as short a time as possible, and we agree in advance when the water will be off.
Tested before it is hidden
New sections are tested before they are hidden under the floor, so problems are found while they are easy to put right.
Consistent with the rest of your plumbing
New runs are joined cleanly to sound existing pipework, and redundant sections are removed or capped off.
Repair a section or replace a run
A single leak on otherwise sound pipe can usually be repaired. When leaks keep returning along the same run, or the pipe walls are thin with corrosion, replacing the whole run is more sensible than chasing the next failure. We explain which applies after looking at the pipework, so you are not paying for a larger job than needed.
Heating pipes and water supply pipes
Heating pipework carries water around a sealed or open-vented circuit, and replacing it means draining the system and treating the new water with inhibitor afterwards. Mains cold, and hot and cold supplies to taps and showers, are isolated at the stopcock and brought back on once the new pipe is tested. The planning differs, but both are handled with the same care. Before the visit, it helps to find your stopcock and check it turns, and to clear space around the boiler, airing cupboard and any areas where floorboards may need lifting. Let us know about fitted flooring or tiles over pipe routes, as this affects how access is planned.
Routes, floors and boxing
Where possible new pipes follow existing routes. Sometimes a better route through a loft, under a floor or inside neat boxing avoids opening up finished walls. We agree routes with you in advance so you know which rooms are affected and how surfaces will be left.
Lead pipework
The water company owns the supply pipe up to your property boundary, and we do not advise on or work on that part, so contact your water company about it. On your side of the boundary, if you suspect lead pipework inside the property, have it assessed and ask us about replacement with modern materials.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be without water for days?
We plan the work in stages and agree in advance when the water will be off, so you know what to expect.
Do you have to take up all my floors?
No. We use existing access points, lofts and boxing where we can, and agree with you exactly which areas need opening.
Can you replace the pipe from the street to my house?
The part up to the property boundary belongs to the water company, so contact them about it. We work on pipework within the property.
